Stepping on the toe allowance

One of the least known facts is how territorial the government bureaucracy is. While a negative connotation may be inferred in that observation, there are good reasons why the work of each person ought to be demarcated from that of their colleagues.

For example, I am not necessarily a communication professional nor a designated official to communicate any government information. However, I often, inadvertently, share some information with some people because my contact details are widely available on the internet, and I have an obligation, as far as reasonably possible, to respond when contacted.

The information for which people contact me is not always the same but in most instances there are similarities. As a result, I intend to use this platform to try and share some of the information to which I can refer others who contact me about the same thing.

In most cases, I get contacted about the publicly available information that the people who contact me might not have easy access to physically, or by comprehension.

It is inevitable, that some of my colleagues, may be irked by the availability of this platform. I would be irked too if someone called me to ask me whether something they read in an unofficial platform is true or not, particularly if I was the designated communication official and I knew that the platform is operated by someone who is not.

In my defence, this platform is not an attempt to usurp the roles that my colleagues so ably discharge. I do not intend to step on their toes. If at all, I am stepping on the toe allowance, the space just next to the toes.

My view is that since we are in the information age, just like there is no such a thing as too much cheese, there cannot be too much information, as long as it is not misinformation. For various reasons there are audiences that may be left out by the official channels, just as there would be others who would still left out by this unofficial platform.

In an excessively litigious environment like ours, it is a possible likelihood that, for one reason or the other, at some point, I may be asked to either remove certain information or shutdown this platform completely. However, another least known facts is how much government information can be accessed using a law called the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA).

I am not aware of a platform similar to this one that is in existence. There are surprisingly many variables I will attempt to continously monitor and review in order to optimise the platform.

Are you still not sure what this article is about? This article is about telling the reader that a platform on https://work.bayanda.co.za is intended to be used for reference. That is all.
