Minister Naledi Pandor’s Statement on 2019 NSFAS Applications

National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications for the 2019 academic year officially closed on the 30 November 2018. The applications system was open for an extended period until Sunday 2 December 2018.

I am pleased that the 2019 application process has performed well in terms of systems, applications received, as well as user experience.

TVET College Council Nominations – Part 2

The term of office of TVET College Council Ministerial Appointees came to an end on 30 October 2018 in 4 provinces, i.e. Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu Natal and Limpopo. The nomination of Ministerial Appointees for Council members in those provinces closed on 31 August 2018, and most Councils have since been appointed.

The term of office of TVET College Council Ministerial Appointees for the remaining provinces; Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Western Cape, North West, and Gauteng, ends in March and April 2019. Thus the nominations opened this week (02 December 2018), with the above advertisement appearing, among others, in the Sunday Times. The nominations will close on Monday, 14 January 2019. Statement of Importance on NSFAS to the National Assembly by Minister Naledi Pandor

There has been growing public concern at the inability of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme to efficiently administer the processing of application and disbursement. These concerns do not begin this year, they have existed for several years. The public, higher education institutions and students are right to be concerned given the important role NSFAS plays in ensuring the transformation of the human resource profile of South Africa. Since its inception the scheme has ensured that funds are made available to thousands of young people from poor and working class backgrounds to support their access to and success in higher education. Efficient administration and disbursement of the funds are essential for ensuring that young people benefit from this critical support for the skills development of our country’s youth. NSFAS applications for 2019 to open on Monday – 03 September 2018

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor is pleased to announce that the 2019 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications for new applicants will be opened on Monday, 3 September 2018.

Stepping on the toe allowance

One of the least known facts is how territorial the government bureaucracy is. While a negative connotation may be inferred in that observation, there are good reasons why the work of each person ought to be demarcated from that of their colleagues.

For example, I am not necessarily a communication professional nor a designated official to communicate any government information. However, I often, inadvertently, share some information with some people because my contact details are widely available on the internet, and I have an obligation, as far as reasonably possible, to respond when contacted. Minister Naledi Pandor appoints Dr Randall Carollissen as NSFAS Administrator

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor has announced the appointment of Dr Randall Carollissen as the Administrator for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
